At school Timothy joined the Dramatic Society, and there he played Sergius in Shaw's Arms and the Man. After graduating, he joined the local community theater where he played the title role in Billy Liar, both of Timothy's grandfathers were vaudevillians and Timothy's grandmother played English music halls with a promising young fellow by the name of Charlie Chaplain, so that could perhaps explain why Timothy was interested in acting from an early age. When Timothy was sixteen he saw the Old Vic Production of Macbeth and after seeing that Timothy decided on an acting career. In 1964 he was invited to join the National Youth Theater in the UK and that summer he made his debut in a small role in Shakespeare's Coriolanus at London's Queens Theater, he is quoted as saying about it that "It was a first step, I was in London, face to face with Shakespeare, so to speak, in my first professional setting at a West End Theater." Timothy enjoyed that experience so much that he decided against going to University and instead headed for the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, but he was not happy there and he said that "After two years I learned nothing."

He is also General Chair of the IEEE International Symposium on Technology and Society, [8] Associate Editor of IEEE Technology and Society , is a licensed Professional Engineer, and Senior Member of the IEEE. [9]
